Homesick for Another World: an expanded screenplay

 In this installation you will enter an audio-visual expanded screenplay, where the multi-layered world building of the work-in-progress feature film ‘Homesick for Another World’ unfolds, before the film is ‘finished’. Each viewer is invited to make free associations and imagine their own version of this film.

A young Chinese filmmaker is arbitrarily confined in a room by herself for mysterious reasons. Between the cold, four walls, she takes over her reality with lucid dreaming…

In a sensorial, meditative and hypnotic cinematic journey, the audience gets transported onto the dream plane, when the documentary-esque realist scenes transform into otherworldly and unfamiliar imagery and soundscapes, as if we enter into the protagonist’s psyche brimming with hallucinations, fears, hopes and longings for another world…

Moving images are projected onto 7 ethereal surfaces, like ghostly apparitions and eyeballs, while dream-like soundscapes swirl around the room. The seemingly incongruous swarms of moving images will not illustrate dreams but embody the amalgamation of conflicting experiences and voices, unveiling their complexities and mysteries…
