Right before Mirko, a jungle guide, is about to leave the Amazon where he grew up, a film crew arrives to make a film in the jungle with his help.

ICON is a cyclical film that meditates on the image-making process and the question of simulacrum against the backdrop of the lush jungle, where human language dissolves into a sonic communion with nature…

video installation
with broken magnifying glass, string, projector
18’ (2023)

The installation weaves a metaphor of cinema: the magnifying is a lens - playing with it was the first ‘fimmaking’ experience I’ve had as a child. Sunlight passes through the magnifying glass and creates a frame made of mesmerizing light, onto a printed photograph of my actor Mirko. And when the light stays too long, it burns the photograph. What are the stakes of a filmmaker’s camera in a place like the Amazon?
